A Tale of The Whale Restaurant- A Treasured Treat!

This blog contains affiliate and referral links, which may reward me in the event of a subscription or sale. I use these funds to feed my cats, fuel my caffeine addiction, and pay bills. Thanks for the support! I love food, but I really love good seafood. I miss living near the ocean because there is nothing like eating a plate of raw or steamed oysters dripping in butter as you look out into the deep blue sea. When I find a great restaurant on vacation, you know it will be visited every time I head into town. On vacation, back in 2015, my husband and I found this gorgeous place on the water in Nagshead North Carolina. We just had to go back again this past summer for another incredible night. A Tale of the Whale is a family-owned establishment that started back in 1997. This fine-dining restaurant offers terrific dishes, great drinks, entertainment, and best of all, waterfront dining, which is probably why we have spent a couple of our anniversary dinners at this beautiful establishment.

Romantic & Elegant

Nothing is more romantic than a waterfront view of watching the sunset with splashes of vibrant fuchsia, burnt orange, and lavish purple colors across the horizon.  Be sure to request a window seat if you eat inside; it is worth the wait. The wooden décor and ocean paintings are warm and welcoming. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. I love it when I get the opportunity to dress up, and this atmosphere is perfect for it.

Savory Seafood, Steaks, & Drinks

We lucked out and was able to get an order of Steamed Oysters with a side of melted butter our first visit. Oysters are seasonal depending on where you are so you may want to check before you visit. Anytime I visit the beach I opt for Snow Crab Legs for my main dish. Again, with a side of melted butter…hmmm, a pattern it seems. If you want to try the local favorites the “Surf & Turf” which is a whole stuffed lobster & a 5 oz. Filet mignon is highly recommended. If you’re looking for a delicious specialty drink, this place is the way to go. They offer a variety of specialty drinks, red & white wine, beer, and you can even make a request as I did. Check out my picture of the yummy Mud Slide I ordered. It includes a biscotti straw, and it tastes like a milkshake!  Click here to check out their full menu.

Events, Private Parties, & Weddings

If you’re looking for a beautiful place for your wedding, event, or having a private party, you found it at Tale of the Whale. They offer a large or small dining room and the waterfront gazebo.  Just imagine having your wedding under the charming gazebo overlooking the Roanoke Sound.  You have a gorgeous location and scrumptious food all in one place.

Star Gazing Under the Gazebo

After dinner, we enjoyed walking down the dock to the gazebo. There are benches along the railing to sit and gaze at the stars and watch the fish under the dim moonlight. The soft breeze blowing salt air and the gentle splashes of water is utterly surreal.  I wish I could do this every day.
