Why you need to set weekly goals

Setting weekly goals is the key to accomplishing your ultimate goals because it makes them more attainable. It also keeps you accountable by checking in with yourself every week to ensure you stay on track.  If you aren't on track, then you can quickly reassess your plan to get back on the path to accomplishing your goals.

How to set weekly goals

When it comes to setting weekly goals, it's simpler than you think. It's all about making a plan that will be challenging yet realistic for you to do. Check out just how to set your goals for the week!

  1. Pick 3 big goals

Using the rule of 3 can be powerful when you set goals. Why 3? 5 is too many, and 2 isn't enough. There's something about picking 3 big goals that isn’t overwhelming, which creates a positive mindset that helps you accomplish them.

An example of 3 big goals would be:

  1. Get out of debt

  2. Start a side-hustle

  3. Declutter my house

So, brainstorm what your big 3 goals are and write them down! Keep them somewhere that you will see them daily to motivate you. Seeing these goals every day will encourage you to work on your smaller weekly goals, which helps you conquer the big goals.

2. Break them into smaller goals

Now that you have your 3 big goals in mind, it's time to break those down into smaller weekly goals! Again, breaking big goals and tasks into smaller goals makes them more attainable. For instance, let's say you really want to declutter your house, but you feel completely overwhelmed by all the mess.

Well, rather than focusing on the entire house, you will break it down into smaller chunks instead. For example, your weekly goal would be to declutter your bedroom. The following week you would declutter your kitchen and so on until you have cleaned the entire house.

This prevents you from getting stuck walking from room to room with no plan because you would focus on one task at a time. So, your weekly goals based on the 3 big goal examples would look something like this:

  1. Declutter bedroom

  2. Research lucrative side-hustles

  3. Pay an extra $25 towards debt

Do you see how this is starting to work now? Every step gets you closer and closer to your ultimate goals!

3. Schedule your goals

The key to actually working on your weekly goals is making a schedule for them. Get out your planner and block out dedicated time every day towards your tasks. It's much too easy to put ourselves on the back burner, and before you know it, another year is gone, and your goals are the exact same as they were last year.  Use the “time blocking method” to make managing your time easier!

4. Get inspired by others

Seeing others' success can be super inspirational. Especially those that had to overcome obstacles similar to yours to get there. Take some time each week and find a podcast, blog, or book that sparks fire in you to help you reach your dreams!

5. Track your progress

Sometimes we don't realize how great we are doing at something if we aren't tracking our results. Tracking your progress every week is a huge motivational tool that will help you keep moving forward.

Taking before and after pictures of your home, tracking how much money you are saving, and making are examples of ways you can see how much you are progressing with your weekly goals.

6. Don't quit; adjust your approach

Unfortunately, some weeks will be better than others, that's just life. The vital thing to remember is you should not quit even if you slip up here and there. Sometimes you may have to adjust your approach to your goals.

What works for some may not work for you and vice versa. The key is to find a method that suits you and your personality best!

7. Stay motivated with a vision board

One of the best things you can do to stay motivated is to create a vision board. A vision board is a collage of pictures, quotes, and inspirational sayings that align with your goals. For example, you would include pictures of your dream home, places you want to visit, and how much money you want to save.

People who use vision boards are actually more successful at achieving their goals than people who don't use them! Be sure to hang your board where you will see it daily to keep you inspired.
