As if we aren’t hard enough on ourselves when it comes to fitness & health, being a beginner makes it even more intimidating. I hate being a beginner; I don’t know why. It’s like I have this unrealistic expectation of myself that no one could possibly live up to.

But being a beginner means at least you are starting your new fitness or health journey, and with time you will be feeling more confident and healthier. My problem is an all or nothing thinking, and this is not healthy. Especially for those of us with health issues such as Hashimoto’s Disease, Lyme Disease, PCOS, or whatever your condition may be.

The thought of moving is exhausting, and it sucks most people have no empathy because they have no idea the battle you are fighting. I do, and that’s why I am going to do this journey with you because I know some days your body feels like you are chained down by a thousand-pound weight.

However, rather than going one more day doing nothing, I thought something is better than nothing. Adriene, a Yoga Superstar on YouTube, even says, “A Little Goes a Long Way!” I love it. So, I started yoga for beginners by Adriene and am looking forward to building from there.

Check out what to expect with Yoga for Beginners by Adriene and how to block out time to meet your weekly goal.

Yoga with Adriene on Youtube

Adriene is a Yoga Instructor YouTube Superstar. She has almost 8 Million Subscribers! She must be doing something right. You can find any type of Yoga routine you’re looking for on her channel. She has Under 10 Minute Practices, Beginner Yoga, Travel Yoga, Weight Loss, etc.

You get a fantastic Yoga Instructor for FREE in the comfort of your own home. The best thing is she is an excellent teacher. I appreciate how she takes it slow for the beginners and explains the poses. She’s light-hearted and funny too, which makes her easy to follow.

I love putting the workout on my phone and doing it in my living room. I may even venture outside eventually, who knows. But, having it on YouTube, I have Adriene to workout with wherever I go.

Yoga for Beginners

Don’t be fooled thinking any Yoga Practice is easy-it is very challenging, but it feels incredible. I want to work up to Adriene’s 30 Day Yoga Challenge, but I’m doing her Yoga for Complete Beginners Workout, for now, to get in the groove. I’m going to incorporate this workout into my fitness routine over the next month or two because I want to make a habit and give myself time to build up my strength and endurance.

The Yoga for Beginners routine is the perfect pace for newbies. She helps you to focus on breathing and takes you through each pose step by step. She explains the names and what they help with.

You will be doing poses such as Cat-Cow, Downward Dog, Warrior 1 & 2, Mountain Pose, etc. The pace is perfect, and by going slower and working on proper technique may help reduce injuries and improve your strength and form. This, by far, is one of the best Yoga for beginners videos I have found.

Benefits of Yoga

Not only can Yoga get you into better shape, but it also has massive health benefits. I didn’t realize it can even Lower Blood Sugar. Since I am Pre-Diabetic, this is huge for me. I am trying to do it naturally without taking medication, so this is just one more reason to hit the mat and start your Yoga for beginners’ workout! Here are some but not all benefits of Yoga:

  • Improves Flexibility

  • Builds Muscle Strength

  • Improves Circulation

  • Improves Posture

  • Regulates Adrenal Glands

  • Boosts Immune System

  • Reduces Blood Sugar

  • Improves Sleep

Schedule Your Yoga

I am terrible at putting things off. Especially when it means taking time out for myself to help me with my new Yoga for Beginners routine, I started Time-Blocking this week. To learn how to do this, check out this article for a step-by-step guide.

Basically, when you Time-Block, you use blocks of time to make your schedule. It’s also color-coded and super pretty on the Google Calendar. 😊 LOL Anyway, I blocked out 7:30 AM-8:00 AM for my Yoga Workouts. By scheduling your workout, you are making a time commitment, and you can go on auto-pilot rather than procrastinating and then being too tired to do it. Try it-you’d be surprised how much easier it makes it to stick with.

 Yoga Attire & Accessories

You can reward yourself for your new Yoga for Beginners routine with some new Yoga Attire & Accessories. As if we needed another reason to grab an adorable pair of leggings or yoga pants. Be sure to invest in a good sports bra for proper support while you are practicing your Yoga. Depending on your Yoga workouts, you can add blocks and bands to your routine. Check out this awesome Yoga Kit on Amazon to get started!

Get Started!

The main thing to do is just start. Once you block out time and begin your new Yoga for Beginner’s routine, you will begin to see results. I’ve found that it’s best to do my yoga first thing in the morning to start my day off right. This way, I don’t wait too late and not do it. It also feels good to stretch when you first wake up to get the blood flowing.

Maybe you can make it a goal to do your new Yoga routine three times a week to start. Then you can incorporate other fitness routines as you build up endurance and get into a routine. The mental and physical benefits of Yoga can definitely help you feel better and increase your quality of life. Be sure to grab the 35 Days of Self-Care, too, and jumpstart taking care of yourself this year!
